What is EMDR?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a therapy approach that can help you process experiences that continue to feel disturbing, overwhelming or emotionally charged.

When something overwhelming happens, we don't always get the opportunity to fully process it. Sometimes the experience can remain very present — affecting how we feel, how we respond to situations, our relationships or our sense of ourselves.

EMDR helps you revisit these experiences in a carefully supported way, allowing your brain to make new connections and for the experience to become less distressing. This can involve guided eye movements, sounds or gentle tapping, depending on what works best for you.

You remain in control throughout, and we work at a pace that feels safe and manageable. You don't have to describe everything that happened in detail.

The goal isn't to change the past. It's to help you feel more able to live in the present without the past continuing to have such a strong hold on you.

“Jo created a safe space for me to talk openly. I can’t recommend her enough.”
